Martin Lutz (musician)

Martin Lutz (born May 19, 1950 ) is a German church musician and harpsichordist .

Martin Lutz studied church music (A-exam) as well as musicology , art history and ancient history at the University of Mainz in Heidelberg .

From 1972 to the end of 2017 he worked as a cantor at the Christophorus Church in Wiesbaden . He directed the Schiersteiner Kantorei and the chamber orchestra Bach Ensemble Wiesbaden . In 1975 he founded the Wiesbaden Bach Weeks and in 1994 the Wiesbaden Music Autumn . From 1981 to 1999 he had a teaching position at the Musicological Institute of the University of Mainz. From 1997 to 2003 he taught orchestral conducting at the Frankfurt University of Music . Since 2003 he has been teaching oratorio design and early music at the Mainz University of Music. He has given concerts as a harpsichordist, organist and conductor in France, Yugoslavia, Denmark, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Austria, Poland, Portugal, China, Switzerland and the Netherlands. He is also a member of the baroque ensemble Parnassi Musici and was provost cantor of the provost office of South Nassau of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau (EKHN) .

For his artistic life's work he was a. a. awarded the Goethe plaque of the state of Hesse (2007), the culture prize of the state capital Wiesbaden (1990, together with the Schiersteiner Kantorei) and the citizen medal of the state capital Wiesbaden in gold (1997) and silver (1987). The University of Mainz appointed him honorary professor in 2009.
