The Schiersteiner Kantorei is a Wiesbaden concert choir , which is based at the Christophoruskirche Schierstein .

history

The Schiersteiner Kantorei was founded in 1962 by Johannes Krüger, the then cantor at the Christophorus Church in Wiesbaden-Schierstein. From 1972 to 2017 the choir was led by Martin Lutz and has earned a nationwide reputation. He has been under the direction of Clemens Bosselmann since 2018.

repertoire

The focus of the choir's work is the work of Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Friedrich Handel , whose most important works are regularly performed. The repertoire also includes most of the major oratorios and choral symphonic works as well as a large number of a cappella pieces from the 16th to 20th centuries.

BachVespern Frankfurt-Wiesbaden

Since the summer of 2004 the Schiersteiner Kantorei, in cooperation with the Kantorei St. Katharinen Frankfurt and the University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt am Main , has performed all 199 church cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach monthly in a discussion concert and evening service.

The Schiersteiner Kantorei plays a key role in shaping the Wiesbaden Bach Weeks and the Wiesbaden Music Autumn . In addition to choir concerts, she also organizes orchestral concerts with the Bach Ensemble Wiesbaden , which consists of leading musicians from the large orchestras of the Rhine-Main area and has made a name for itself in particular as an interpreter of Viennese Classic and Romanticism in historically informed style . Since 1963 it has been organizing the Schiersteiner Vespermusiken chamber music series , which provides a forum for early music in Wiesbaden.

Awards

The Schiersteiner Kantorei was awarded the cultural prize of the state capital Wiesbaden in 1990.
