Martin Monrad

Martin Monrad (born December 19, 1977 ) is a former Danish table tennis player . He was European team champion in 2005 .

International career

Monrad achieved first successes at the European Youth Championships. Here he reached the final in Topolcany in 1992 in the cadet competition in singles and doubles with Morten Knudsen. In 1994 he won the junior class in Paris with the Danish team. A year later, he won the doubles title with Russian Alexei Smirnow in The Hague .

From 1995 to 2006 Monrad took part in nine world championships . He did not succeed in winning a medal. Since 1996 he has been nominated several times for European championships . In 1998 he reached the double quarter-finals. In 2005 he was European team champion with the Danish team, and in 2009 it reached the final.

In the ITTF world rankings he is currently (March 2011) in 175th place. In mid-2005 he was ranked 75th.

Activities in Germany

In 1995 Monrad left the Danish club Horning BTK and joined the German club TTC Grünweiß Bad Hamm , which was playing in the 2nd Bundesliga at the time . In 1997 he moved to Borussia Düsseldorf , with whose men's team he became German champion in 1997/98 and was in the final of the European Cup in the following year . Four years later he went to Sweden to Malmö FF.

National championships

At the Danish national championships, Monrad won several titles:

  • Single - six tracks: 1997, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007
  • Double - eight titles: 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 each with Allan Bentsen
  • Teams: 1994, 1995 with Horning BTK

Monrad won the TOP12 ranking tournament three times in a row from 1996 to 1998. In April 2011 he finished fourth in the Danish national rankings.
