Martin Platzer (born September 24, 1963 in Villach ) is a former Austrian ice hockey player . He completed 15 seasons in the Austrian Ice Hockey League and Alpine League and was a member of the Austrian national team from 1984 to 1989 .

Athletic career

Martin Platzer began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth team of the EC VSV , for whom he made his debut as a defender in the Austrian ice hockey Bundesliga at the age of 15 in the 1978/79 season and played until 1982/83. In the 1979/80 season he was part of the team that achieved the historic first championship title in the club's history. In 1983/84 he moved to Innsbrucker EV where, with the exception of the 1985/86 season, which he played for VEU Feldkirch, he was under contract for seven seasons. In the 1988/89 season he led the GEV Innsbruck team as captain to their first championship title in 25 years. In 1991/92 he moved to CE Vienna and in the following season 1992/93 to EC KAC . He scored 247 points (57 goals and 190 assist) in 474 league games. Martin Platzer was a member of the Austrian national team from 1984 to 1989, for which he played a total of 59 games (7 points) at three World Championships and the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo (10th place) in 1984 and Calgary (9th place) in 1988 .

In 2000 he founded Vienna Capitals together with the former players Kurt Harand and Johann Schuller as well as the entrepreneur Hans Schmid , for which he was responsible for marketing from 2001 to 2003 and the sporting management from the 2004/2005 to 2011/12 season. As a sporting director he achieved the greatest success in 2005, the first championship title in the club's history. He was also vice president of the club from 2001 to 2014.

Professional background

Martin Platzer studied business administration at the University of Innsbruck from 1983 to 1991, graduating as Mag.rer.soc.oec. In 1992 he founded the consulting company MPM Sponsoring Consulting GmbH, which was also active in Germany and Switzerland from the mid-1990s. In 1999 the company won the International Sponsoring Award . Since 2013, Martin Platzer has also been active as an entrepreneur in other industries (energy industry, outdoor advertising), for example he was co-founder of enelteco Energie-Consulting GmbH , Digi Netz GmbH and Zugkraft Vermarktungs GmbH .
