Martin Redmayne, Baron Redmayne

Martin Redmayne, Baron Redmayne PC DSO TD ( November 16, 1910 - April 28, 1983 ) was a British Conservative Party politician who was a member of the House of Commons for sixteen years and who became a life peer member of the House of Lords in 1966 .

Life

World War II and Member of the House of Commons

Redmayne, son of a civil engineer and farmer, graduated from Radley College . During the Second World War he did his military service in the British Army and found uses in Italy in 1943 . In 1944 he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for his military services and was initially commander of the 14th  Battalion of the Sherwood Foresters , before he was last commanding officer of the 66th Infantry Brigade between 1944 and 1945 and with them on combat missions in Italy and in the Middle East participated. In 1945 he was awarded the rank of Honor Brigadier General ( Honor Brigadier ).

In the general election of February 23, 1950 , Redmayne was elected as a candidate for the Conservative Tories for the first time as a member of the House of Commons, where he represented the constituency of Rushcliffe until he did not stand again in the general election on March 31, 1966 .

Advance to Chief Government Whip and House of Lords Member

After the Conservative Party's victory in the general election on October 25, 1951 , he took on numerous functions until his party's defeat in the general election on October 15, 1964 : First, Tremayne, who was awarded the Territorial Decoration in 1952 , became Parliamentary Executive Director of the government in 1951 parliamentary group ( Government Whip ) and was Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury between 1953 and 1959 . He also served from 1955 to 1959 as Deputy Parliamentary General Manager ( Deputy Government Chief Whip ) before it in 1959 as successor to Edward Heath Parliamentary Chief Executive ( Government Chief Whip ) and at the same time Parliamentary Secretary of the Treasury ( Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury was). He held both offices until the Labor Party won the general election on October 15, 1964, and in 1959 was also Privy Councilor .

Tremayne was given the hereditary title Baronet , of Rushcliffe in the County of Nottinghamshire on December 29, 1964 . Most recently, after leaving the House of Commons , he was raised to a life peer under the Life Peerages Act 1958 with the title Baron Redmayne , of Rushcliffe in the County of Nottinghamshire, by a letters patent dated June 10, 1966 , and thus belonged to his Death as a member of the House of Lords.

While his baron title expired on his death, his son Nicholas John Redmayne inherited the title of 2nd baronet after his death.
