Martin Rennie (born May 22, 1975 in Thurso ) is a Scottish football coach.

Since January 16, 2018, he has been training the Indy Eleven club in the USL .

Rennie went to the United States at the age of 19. There the midfielder played with the Charlotte Eagles in the A-League . However, he had to give up this commitment a short time later due to a knee injury. Rennie then returned to Scotland and played for various Scottish amateur clubs until his late 30s. His knee injury kept bothering him until he finally had to end his career as an active player.

Coaching career

Cascade surge

Rennie received the UEFA A coaching license at the age of 26. He was one of the youngest to ever get this coaching license. In 2005 he started his coaching career at Cascade Surge. Surge was playing in the USL Premier Development League at the time . With the team from Salem, Oregon , he achieved the best result of his entire coaching career. Overall, the team lost only two games and reached the championship final of the USL PDL.

After this success he had numerous offers from various US teams. After completing other training and psychology courses in Scotland, he returned to coach the Cleveland City Stars. He became the first coach of the newly formed USL Second Division franchise. With the Stars, he immediately reached second place in the league and was named the best coach of the year. A season later, the team was even able to win the play-offs of the USL-2.

Carolina RailHawks

For the 2009 season he moved to the Carolina RailHawks in the USL First Division . After two mixed seasons for the Hawk, Rennie made it with the team in second place in the league. In the play-offs the semi-finals could be reached.

During the 2010 season, the team developed into one of the best teams outside of Major League Soccer. She reached first place in the NASL Conference in the USSF Division 2 Professional League, then the second division in the country. In the play-offs, Rennie and his team were in the final. This success was continued in the 2011 season. The RailHawks now played in the newly created North American Soccer League and took first place in the regular season in its first season.

Vancouver Whitecaps

On November 1, 2011, Rennie moved to Major League Soccer for the Vancouver Whitecaps .

Seoul E-Land FC

From September 11, 2014 to June 15, 2016, he coached the South Korean second division team.

Indy Eleven

In January 2018, Rennie took over the US second division club.
