Martin Rosen (born October 11, 1907 in Berlin ; † June 28, 1981 there ) was a German actor , voice actor and singer .

life and career

Martin Rosen was the son of Jewish parents. He trained at the drama school of the Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf and in Berlin. He joined the Kulturbund Deutscher Juden after the National Socialists seized power in Germany. Until the ban of the Kulturbund, he played in several productions as an actor. During the war, Rosen had been imprisoned in Auschwitz since 1944 and barely survived. His daughter, whom he had previously entrusted to friends in Shanghai, did not return to him until the end of the war. After his liberation, Rosen quickly returned to the stage as a performer. As before, he performed in the Hebbel Theater in Berlin . Between 1949 and 1959 he was a permanent member of the ensemble of the Komische Oper in East Berlin and played in various DEFA productions. From 1964 he could be seen again in theaters in West Berlin . a. at the Freie Volksbühne Berlin , the Renaissance Theater or the Theater des Westens .

Since 1948 he played as an actor in various cinema productions, including Arthur Maria Rabenalt's comedy Chemistry and Love , in Carl Boese's film drama Beate , in 1949 in The Blue Swords directed by Wolfgang Schleif , in 1953 in Arthur Pohl's The Invincible , in 1955 in Eugen Yorks A literary film adaptation of Das Fräulein von Scuderi or in Kurt Maetzig's 1957 production Don't forget my Traudel .

In addition, Martin Rosen occasionally worked as a voice actor. Among other things, he has spoken roles in films such as The Thief of Baghdad , Won Ton Ton, The Dog Who Saved Hollywood and The Marathon Man .

The numerous roles that Martin Rosen played in the cinema and on television, as well as on the theater stages, made him well-known in East and West Berlin.
