Martin Runge (doctor)

Martin Runge (born July 18, 1949 in Brilon , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German physician, specialist in general medicine / clinical geriatrics as well as physical and rehabilitative medicine.

Life

At the age of 19 Runge began to study Catholic theology at the Ruhr University in Bochum and later switched to the same subject at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . In 1973 he successfully completed this course with the final church examination in Bochum. In the same year he began studying human medicine, which he finished in 1980 and was granted a license to practice medicine .

Runge had been the assistant at the Institute for Physiology II at the Ruhr University Bochum since 1976 with the research focus on "Visually evoked potentials in the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis ". Between 1980 and 1986 he completed further training in the subjects of psychiatry , internal medicine and surgery in Berlin, Bochum and Meerbusch-Lank. In 1983 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD at the University Clinic Bochum . In 1985, the North Rhine Medical Association approved Runge as a specialist in general medicine. In the following year he settled in Duisburg as a general practitioner and worked as such until 1991. In 1995 his facultative advanced training in clinical geriatrics was recognized by the Medical Association of North Württemberg and in 1996 as a specialist in physical and rehabilitation medicine.

From 1991 Runge worked as medical director of the Aerpah clinic Esslingen-Kennenburg ; later in the same position at the Aerpah-Klinik Ilshofen. In 1995 Runge was entrusted with the management of the state working group for geriatric rehabilitation clinics in Baden-Württemberg. As such, he initiated and directed several scientific studies. Runge was also instrumental in developing exercise programs to treat osteoporosis and fitness programs for the second half of life.

In 1998 Runge took over the management of the research project Parameters for Instability and Falls in Old Age (PISA). The results of this work were reflected in many articles and specialist publications. From 2005, Runge's main focus was the treatment of paraplegic patients with tilting table vibration. He is a member of the International Society of Musculoskeletal and Neuronal Interactions (ISMNI) as well as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Journal of Musculoskeletal and Neuronal Interactions , a study director of several scientific studies.

His research focuses on gait disorders , fall risk diagnostics , osteoporosis , muscle-bone interactions and age-related changes in muscles and bones.
