Martin Sallmann

Martin Sallmann (born December 10, 1963 in Kreuzlingen ) is a Swiss theologian and professor of church history .

Life

Martin Sallmann grew up in Speicher AR and studied theology from 1984–1991 at the universities of Basel and Bern . From 1993–1997 he was a research assistant for church history at the Theological Faculty of the University of Basel with Ulrich Gäbler . In 1997 he received his doctorate with a dissertation on Huldrich Zwingli's theological way of thinking in “De vera et falsa religione commentarius”, for which he received the faculty award in 1998. 1997-2005 he worked as a senior research assistant for church history at the Theological Faculty of Basel. In 2004 he completed his habilitation there and was appointed private lecturer in church history. From 2004–2008 he was head of the Theological Alumni in Basel.

From 2007 to 2014, Sallmann held an extraordinary professorship for modern church history at the University of Bern , which was converted into a full professorship in 2014. Since 2012 he has also been dean of the theological faculty in Bern.

His research interests lie in the history of Swiss Protestantism from the Reformation and confessionalization through Orthodoxy to Pietism and the revival movement .

He has been married since 1989 and has four children.
