Martin Smith (drummer)

Martin Smith (born December 17, 1946 in Southampton , † March 2, 1997 ) was an English drummer.

Martin Smith from 1970 to 1971 the drummer on the album Gentle Giant and acquiring the key of Gentle Giant . Before founding Gentle Giants, he played in the band Simon Dupree and the Big Sound , which also included Phil , Ray and Derek Shulman .

The last time Martin Smith played drums for The Bruce Roberts Blues Band was in a pub in Warminster. At this point he was in good health and appeared to be enjoying life.

Martin Smith later played on some gigs with the Bad Penny Band around Southampton, where he lived until his death.

Martin Smith died on March 2, 1997 after a five-year illness. He still played the drums until two months before his death, and he needed help setting up the drums. 150 people, many of them musicians , attended his funeral, whose funeral speech was written by Gordon Haskell of King Crimson .
