Kölncampus is the radio for Cologne students . As with other campus radios, the program is thematically characterized by a strong university connection, especially in the two daily magazine programs "Frührausch" (8 am to 11 am) and "NachDurst" (1 pm to 3 pm). Musically, the program is characterized by a mixture that is largely outside the mainstream and consciously serves musical niches and experimental music styles, including variants of jazz , hip-hop , rock and pop . In the evenings, 15 different programs on special music genres are currently being produced. a. Punk rock and reggae . The Cologne campus is largely financed by the universities and the students as well as a sponsoring association founded in 2006. In addition, some shows are occasionally sponsored by companies.

Since broadcasting started on April 30, 2002 , Kölncampus has been broadcasting 24 hours a day on the frequency 100.0 MHz with a transmission power of 93 watts ERP from the telecommunications tower in the Sternengasse in downtown Cologne. The operation of the program was made possible by two associations: the Kölncampus e. V. and Campus-Welle Köln e. V.

Since the beginning, the members of their association have been imparting journalistic tools and radio practice to other students. The Campus-Welle Köln e. V. forms the first editorial office of the Cologne university radio. Participation runs through all universities and subject areas. All active participants, including the leading students, are involved in the project on a voluntary basis. In 2009 more than 500 students took part in the Kölncampus program.

The philosophy

An important principle in the philosophy of the editorial team is to give everyone involved as much freedom as possible for creativity, new ideas and independent work despite a clearly defined program scheme. The student boss on duty and the editorial management , which consists exclusively of students, control the daily broadcasting operations.

The history

The initiative for a university radio in Cologne was taken by students. Fifty of them founded the association Campus-Welle Köln e. V. On September 29, 1995, the first hour of Bürgerfunk was broadcast on Radio Cologne. In the sponsoring association Kölncampus e. V. created the universities, the ASten of the universities, the Kölner Studierendenwerk and other members the necessary financial basis for the university radio and applied for the license. On November 30, 2000, the license was finally granted by the State Broadcasting Corporation. The frequency 100.0 MHz was assigned on November 5, 2001. The first test broadcasts were broadcast on this wave from January 21, 2002. On April 30, 2002, the official broadcast was finally launched. Professor Tassilo Küpper , then Rector of the University of Cologne , Norbert Burger , former Lord Mayor of Cologne, and Georg Luppertz, former project manager of Kölncampus started the first live broadcast from Kölncampus by pressing a red button at a big party on the university campus Cologne. Since the start of broadcasting, many editorial offices and departments have emerged (including an online editorial team and a training team), and the number of members has grown to over 500.

At the beginning of February 2014, the editorial team and studios of Kölncampus moved to the newly established student service center of the University of Cologne.

The music

The music at Kölncampus tries to set itself apart from a radio landscape that is geared towards the buying behavior of young people.

Charts and chart placements are irrelevant and no music style is excluded from the outset. An attempt is made to offer artists and topics a platform that cannot be found in the fully formatted radio landscape, but already established musicians are also included in the program.

In 15 music programs from experimental to punk, reggae to Hamburg school, house to death metal, jazz to glam rock, rap to dubstep and even more, music topics are approached moderately and in conversations with guests.

The former

Almost 100 former radio makers have now joined forces to form the Kölncampus alumni and are in close contact with the broadcaster and with each other even after their studies. Some alumni are already successful as moderators for public and private radio stations, for example Volker Janitz ( SWR3 “Morningshow”), Thomas Habke ( Radio Erft “Am Morgen”) and Robert Meyer ( 1 Live ).

The development association

On June 29, 2006 the “Association of Friends and Patrons of the University Radio Kölncampus e. V. “founded. The association offers the editors ideal and material support. Individuals and companies can become members.
