Status: end of career

Martin Vaniak (born October 4, 1970 in Ústí nad Labem ) is a former Czech football player on the goalkeeping position . He won the Czech championship twice with Slavia Prague .

Career

Martin Vaniak started at the small club Severotuk in his hometown Ústí nad Labem, at the age of ten he moved to the larger club Armaturka . He did his military service at VTJ Hodonín, then moved to Sigma Olomouc . There he was goalkeeper in 1994/95.

From 1997 to 2001 he played for Petra Drnovice and then returned to Olomouc. For the next few years he was one of the best goalkeepers in the Czech Republic and made seven appearances in the national jersey between 2002 and 2004. Surprisingly for many, he was not appointed to the squad for the 2004 European Championship in Portugal. At the end of 2004 Vaniak became the unofficial world champion in holding free kicks in Marbella .

When his contract with Sigma Olomouc expired in the summer of 2005, it seemed like he was going to move to Slavia Prague , and Vaniak ended up with the Greek club Panionios Athens . After only one season in Greece, he moved to FK SIAD Most in August 2006 .

In the summer of 2007 Vaniak was signed by Slavia Prague. With Slavia, the goalkeeper won the Czech championship in 2007/08 and 2008/09. In the 2009/10 season he lost his regular place in the goal of Slavia Prague after a mistake on the first day of play, initially to Jan Hanuš , but returned at the end of August between the posts. In October 2009 coach Karel Jarolím informed him that in future he would only be a substitute goalkeeper behind Deniss Romanovs . Even so, he was featured in half of the games until 2011 before retiring.
