Martin Witkowski (born November 12, 1976 in Siegen ) is a German music and culture manager .

Life

Witkowski studied musicology, piano and civil law at the "Franz Liszt" University of Music in Weimar and at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena .

During his studies he did internships and received fee contracts at the Hamburg State Opera / Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg, Gewandhaus zu Leipzig, German National Theater Weimar, Labor Court Siegen, Colbert Artists Management New York and the German Orchestra Association. At the age of 24, Martin Witkowski was entrusted with the task of setting up an artistic management office (KBB) for the Tonhalle Düsseldorf .

Starting in 2008, he led the Staatskapelle Weimar as orchestra director for two seasons together with Carl St. Clair and the general manager Stephan Märki . Guest performances have taken him and the Staatskapelle Weimar with Anna Netrebko , David Garrett and Jonas Kaufmann to concert halls in Germany, Spain and Italy. In addition to other activities for the orchestra such as film music recordings for the film Laura's Star in China , Martin Witkowski founded the Thuringian Orchestra Academy together with the rector of the "Franz Liszt" Weimar University of Music and the director of the Jena Philharmonic as part of the excellence promotion of the Free State of Thuringia. Under the patronage of the Federal Foreign Minister, Walter Steinmeier, Martin Witkowski traveled as a state guest with a delegation to Iran in order to have the opportunity for a guest performance by the Staatskapelle Weimar in Persepolis, at the Hafiz mausoleum in Shiraz and in the Borj-e Milad Tower in Tehran check.

In 2009 Martin Witkowski returned to Düsseldorf and, as head of the artistic office and scheduler at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, expanded the guest performance area. In 2011 he founded a non-profit event company as managing partner, which has set itself the task of promoting and supporting art and cultural projects as well as young artists with the income from commercial events. This resulted in a presentation of the Flying Bach breakdance event marketed by Red Bull . In 2011, Martin Witkowski was commissioned by the board of the Robert Schumann Society in Düsseldorf to manage the International Schumann Festival 2012. Further appointments as managing director followed. Martin Witkowski said goodbye at the 2016 International Schumann Festival.

Witkowski left Düsseldorf for the 2018/19 season. Together with the city of Monheim am Rhein, he is converting the old barrel filling hall of the former Shell refinery into an event location for the citizens.

Witkowski showed his first own curated work outside a permanent venue in June 2919 and staged a video and light installation in the tunnel facing the Rhine to mark the 25th anniversary of the Rhine bank tunnel. This production was attended by more than 12,000 people.

In addition to his full-time duties, Martin Witkowski has been an honorary judge for labor jurisdiction at the Düsseldorf Labor Court since 2008 and examiner at the Düsseldorf Chamber of Industry and Commerce for the event specialist degree.
