Martin von Baumgartner

Martin von Baumgartner (born November 11, 1473 in Kufstein ; † 1535 ibid) was a mine owner and driver of Palestine.

Martin von Baumgartner was the son of the businessman and mine owner Hanns Baumgartner and his wife Elisabeth Soiter. He could not hold the mines taken over from his father, but lost them to the Fugger family . He was then appointed by the government in the supreme miner 's office. Baumgartner went on a pilgrimage to Palestine in 1507/08 , the travel description of which was published by his companion Georg, who died in 1541 as prior of the Gaming Charterhouse .

In 1522 Baumgartner turned to Protestantism and entered into correspondence with Martin Luther .

Baumgartner's grave slab is set into a wall in the former town cemetery in Kufstein (Pfarrplatz). "The bourgeois son proudly presents himself in armor of his time."
