Martina Wenker

Martina Wenker (born September 1, 1958 in Göttingen ) is a German doctor , specialist , President of the Lower Saxony Medical Association and Vice President of the German Medical Association .

Life

After attending school, she studied biology and medicine at the Georg-August University in her hometown of Göttingen . After her license to practice medicine in 1983, she received her doctorate in 1985 with her dissertation on the value of cranial computed tomography in the diagnosis of skull fractures in the context of acute craniocerebral trauma .

After her recognition as a specialist in internal medicine, Wenker worked from 1990 first as an assistant doctor, then as a senior physician in the Diekholzen district hospital as a specialist in internal medicine.

Martina Wenker also worked in Diekholzen in the areas of pulmonary and bronchial medicine, allergology, environmental medicine, sleep medicine and quality management at the Diekholzen gGmbH Lung Clinic .

After Wenker became a member of the chamber assembly of the Lower Saxony Medical Association in 1998, she was elected to its board in 2002. In 2006 she took over the office of President of the Lower Saxony Medical Association. Meanwhile, Martina Wenker had already taken over the office of Vice President of the German Medical Association in 2011.

She ran for the election of the outgoing President of the German Medical Association, Frank Ulrich Montgomery , at the German Medical Association in Münster on May 30, 2019 . The Marburger Bund supports Wenker's candidacy. Wenker lost in the third ballot with 121 to 124 votes against the chairman of the Hartmannbund , Klaus Reinhardt .

Positions

Wenker's focus is on recruiting young doctors as well as improving the care of pain patients and strengthening palliative medical care. She speaks out against the abolition of § 219a StGB ( advertising for the termination of pregnancy ). Doctors who perform abortions should not be allowed to indicate this on their homepage. Wenker advocates the introduction of health as a school subject in general schools. It is open to developments in telemedicine, but calls for the protection of personal patient data and the observance of medical confidentiality.

She advocates compulsory vaccination against measles.
