Martti Hirvonen (born June 8, 1975 in Helsinki ) is a former German - Finnish ice hockey goalkeeper who is currently the goalkeeper coordinator of Espoo Blues in Finland.

Career

Hirvonen began his career in the youth team of Jungadler Mannheim before moving to Cologne in 1992, where he acted as a junior goalkeeper and was used as the third goalkeeper of the senior team in the DEL . There he played the only DEL game of his career and became the first DEL champion with the Kölner Haien . After the championship year, Hirvonen switched to EV Duisburg as a regular goalkeeper in the 2nd Bundesliga, where he only stayed for one year. For the 1996/97 season he moved to ETC Timmendorfer Strand , which also played in the 2nd Bundesliga. After further changes within the 2nd Bundesliga to ETC Crimmitschau and Iserlohner EC , he joined the regional league team Peißenberg Hornets for the 1999/2000 season . Several clubs became aware of him because of his good performance. Between 2000 and 2002 he then played at 1. EV Weiden , with whom he was champion of the Regionalliga Süd in the second year and was promoted to the upper league. He was also voted the best goalkeeper in the Regionalliga Süd in the 2000/2001 season. After a year at ERSC Amberg , he moved back to Weiden, which had meanwhile been promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. After an interlude at EHC Bayreuth , Hirvonen went to EA Schongau , where he was active for a season and a half. In 2007 Hirvonen ended his career after a season in the regional league at Höchstadter EC .

In 2007 Hirvonen moved back to his home country Finland, where he also works as the goalkeeper coordinator for Espoo Blues . In 2011 he made a short comeback when he helped out his former club ETC Timmendorfer Strand for a game in the major league.
