Martin "Marty" Slovak (born December 25, 1916 in Newport , Michigan , † March 22, 1950 in Toledo , Ohio ) was an American American football player. He played three seasons as the tailback for the Cleveland Rams in the National Football League (NFL).

college

Slovak attended the University of Toledo from 1935 to 1937 , where he played college football for the Toledo Rockets . In his senior year, he was team captain and became the first Rockets player to be nominated for the College All-Star Game .

NFL

Slovak was not selected in the 1939 NFL Draft and was later signed by the Cleveland Rams . There he was used as a tailback and quarterback for three seasons .

After football

Slovak had been in hospital since November 1949 because of cancer . He died in March 1950 at the age of 33.
