Martyn Day
Martyn Day (born March 26, 1971 in Falkirk ) is a Scottish politician of the Scottish National Party (SNP).
Political career
Day had been an election worker for the SNP in Linlithgow since 1992 . In the Scottish general elections in 1999 and 2011 , he was campaign manager for the constituencies of Linlithgow and Falkirk East, respectively . Likewise in the 2010 general election in the Linlithgow and East Falkirk constituency .
In 1999, Day was elected to the West Lothian Regional Council for the SNP and was re-elected in all subsequent regional elections until 2015. As part of the SNP-led West Lothian government, he was responsible for the development and transport departments between 2007 and 2012. In the following opposition phase he acted both as spokesman for the SNP parliamentary group for these issues and as a whip .
In the British general election in 2015 , Day ran for the SNP for the mandate of his home constituency Linlithgow and East Falkirk. With the massive gains in votes by the SNP in these elections, Day won the majority with 52.0% and subsequently moved into the British House of Commons for the first time . He prevailed against Labor MP Michael Connarty , who had represented the constituency in the House of Commons since its introduction in 2005. In Parliament, Day is a member of the Administration Committee . Despite losing votes, Day maintained his mandate in the early general election in 2017 .
