Martyn Gilleard

Martyn Gilleard (born 1977 in the UK ) is a British right- wing terrorist who was sentenced to 16 years in prison in 2008. In addition to possessing explosives and illegally building bombs, he was convicted of possessing child pornography . Gilleard was one of the first right-wing extremists to be convicted under tightened UK anti- terrorism laws following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks .

Gilleard lived in an apartment in Goole , East Riding of Yorkshire , with his five year old son . During a house search on suspicion of possession of child pornographic material, the police found 39,000 child pornographic images and four working nail bombs under his son's bed, various materials and instructions for building bombs, and a number of stabbing weapons. Right-wing propaganda material and a number of handwritten anti-Semitic notes were also found. He had already been sentenced to a suspended sentence for illegally possessing weapons.

In 2008 Leeds Crown Court proceedings , he was sentenced to 16 years' imprisonment, 11 years for terrorist activities and five for possession of child pornography. The court saw it as proven that Gilleard planned attacks on his political opponents, especially blacks, Asians, European migrants, Jews and Muslims. According to the law enforcement authorities, he was in the preparatory phase for a race war and had plans to set up his own terrorist organization. Gilleard saw himself as a British nationalist . He was a member of the National Front and the British People's Party , which distanced themselves after his guilty verdict.
