Marun ar-Ras ( Arabic مارون الراس Mārūn ar-Rās ) is a place in southern Lebanon right on the border with Israel . It belongs to the Nabatiye ( Nabatäa )administrative district. A UNIFIL post isstationed here. The place is 911 m above sea level on a mountain that towers above the surrounding area. That is why the place is of strategic importance.

Israel claims that the place is a stronghold of Hezbollah is of whom the Israel-Lebanon conflict in 2006 , the militia Israel with Katyusha rockets fired at. Beginning on July 22, 2006, there was a skirmish over the place that the Israeli army claimed to have occupied. This has been denied by Lebanese security circles and Hezbollah.

According to agency reports, the place is said to have had around 2,300 inhabitants before the start of the fighting, but most of them fled.
