Bad Erna is a local recreation area around a small group of lakes about 4 km south of Doberlug-Kirchhain in the Elbe-Elster district in the Niederlausitzer Heidelandschaft nature park .

history

The five artificially created lakes from four former coal mines were part of the first lignite mines in Niederlausitz at the end of the 19th century. The other mining areas were in Schönborn, Domsdorf and towards Lauchhammer , today z. B. the Grünewalder leek , and Plessa can be found. The pits were in operation until around 1900 and were quickly opened to the public for tourist purposes. The remains of an old briquette factory can still be seen at the “Bad Erna” Welsteich .

The names of the five lakes surrounded by forest are "Inselteich", "Welsteich", "Blauer See", "Perschtich" and "Franzosenteich". At the end of the 1920s, a steadily growing local bathing tourism developed around the island pond. In order to further develop the local recreation area Bad Erna, popularly named after the Erna mine, the town of Dobrilugk bought the area from the municipality of Lindena in 1928 . At the beginning of the 1930s, the first bungalows and a restaurant were built around the island pond, and a boat rental facility was also set up. After 1960 most of the houses were built. A special purpose association “Nahercovery Bad-Erna - Rückersdorfer Teich” was created in 1971 and was intended to maintain and develop the local recreation area. In 1996, the Bad Erna Welsteich was assigned to the Lindena community by the Cottbus regional finance office.

Today the recreation area is called "Waldbad Erna" by the city of Doberlug-Kirchhain with a focus on swimming, sporting activities in the form of trendy or fun sports and fitness offers (e.g. beach volleyball or high-rope climbing garden), camping, hiking on foot and by Bike on an adventure trail as well as riding and driving. The “blue lake”, the “perch pond” and the “French pond”, on the other hand, are only designated fishing waters. To the north of the area is the “Hammerteich”, a pond created by the mining of the lawn iron stone, which is used for commercial fish farming.

Infrastructure

At the main pond, the "Inselteich", there is a public bathing area and a restaurant. The public bathing lake is closed to motorboat traffic. Around 250 weekend houses and bungalows belong to private individuals and are leased on a long-term basis. There is a volleyball court on the bank. The lake is monitored by a lifeguard.
