Marvin Harris

Marvin Harris (* 18th August 1927 in Brooklyn ; † 25. October 2001 in Gainesville (Florida) ) was an American anthropologist and the leading exponent of the theory of cultural materialism (Engl. Cultural Materialism ).

He taught and researched for over 30 years at Columbia University in New York and from the 1980s at the University of Florida in Gainesville. His book Wohlgeschmack und Widerwillen is a standard work on food taboos .
