Marvin van Heek (born November 22, 1991 in Montpellier , France ) is a former Dutch ski racer . He mainly started in the fast downhill and super-G disciplines . His best result was the 8th place in the downhill run from Val Gardena . No Dutchman achieved a better result in the World Cup before him.

Career

Van Heek was born in southern France and currently lives in the French Alpine community of Menthon-Saint-Bernard . In his youth he drove for the French ski association, he made his debut in the European Cup in January 2010. In June 2011, van Heek switched to the Dutch association. For the first time in the World Cup he started on February 3, 2012 in Chamonix , where he finished 54th out of 66 participants. Two days later he was ranked 30th in the super combination descent, which gave him start number one in the subsequent slalom run. However, he could not use this good starting position for World Cup points, but fell back to 39th place.

Until the World Cup downhill run from Val Gardena on December 15, 2012, this remained van Heek's best World Cup result, in the European Cup he was once 29th in the points. On the Saslong , which was shortened due to fresh snow , he took advantage of the opportunity like some other runners with high starting numbers and finished 8th 0.59 s behind the winner Steven Nyman when the conditions improved . This is by far the best result of a Dutch ski racer and the second Time after Harald de Man in 1998 that a Dutchman won World Cup points.

Van Heek ended his career after the 2015/16 World Cup season.
