Mary Ann McCall

Mary Ann McCall (born May 4, 1919 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † December 14, 1994 in Los Angeles ) was an American jazz singer .

McCall began as a singer and dancer in Buddy Morrow's Orchestra and worked briefly with Tommy Dorsey in 1938 . The following year she appeared with Charlie Barnet and for the first time with Woody Herman , whose bands she belonged to from 1946 to 1950. She also sang with the Ralph Burns Orchestra , Tommy Reynolds and Teddy Powell . In 1948/49 she recorded with the Phil Moore Orchestra for Discovery Records ("I Hadn't Anyone Till You" / "You're Mine, You").

For some time, McCall was married to Al Cohn . 1954-55 she worked with Charlie Ventura . She performed in Detroit in the late 1950s before moving to Los Angeles. There she largely withdrew from the public eye, but worked with Jake Hanna in 1976 and with Nat Pierce in 1978 . In the 1940s and 1950s she played a few albums as a band leader. In 2004 an album with recordings from 1939 to 1950 was released under the title You're Mine .
