Tommy Reynolds
Tommy Reynolds (* 17th January 1917 in Akron , Ohio as Thomas Anthony Rinaldo , † thirtieth September 1986 in New York City ) was an American jazz - clarinetist and bandleader of swing and popular music as well as producer .
Life
Reynolds studied at the University of Akron and then became a member of the Isham Jones orchestra , where he stayed for two years. At the end of 1939 he founded his own formation, which soon enjoyed great popularity in the Midwest through radio broadcasts of their appearances in Cleveland . Reynolds then performed at the Roseland Ballroom and the Paramount Hotel in New York, the Bandbox in Chicago and the Palladium in Hollywood. Reynolds recorded with his bands for the labels Columbia , Vocalion , Atlantic and Okeh .
He was able to keep his big band, in which well-known musicians such as Serge Chaloff , Dewey Jackson , Urbie Green , Harry DiVito and Fats Navarro played, until the 1950s. When he finally broke up, he became musical director of the radio and television station WOR in New York City. Bandstand USA is one of his most famous productions
