Burt Collins

Burt Collins (born March 27, 1931 in New York City , † February 24, 2007 there ) was an American studio and jazz musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn ).

Collins worked from the mid-1950s with Johnny Richards , Urbie Green and Woody Herman and The Swingin 'Herd ( Blues Groove ; 1956). In the 1960s he was a soloist with Lew Tabackin in the Duke Pearson Big Band. Around 1970 he formed the band Collins-Shepley Galaxy with trumpeter Joe Shepley , which recorded two albums, including a Lennon / McCartney tribute album. The band belonged u. a. also Michael Abene . Collins participated in 168 recording sessions in the field of jazz from 1956 to 2004, in addition to the aforementioned also with Blue Mitchell , Sal Salvador , Pat Moran , Jimmy McGriff , Stanley Turrentine , Albert Ayler ( New Grass ), Astrud Gilberto , George Benson , Manhattan Transfer , Airto Moreira , Paul Desmond , Eumir Deodato and Lalo Schifrin . Collins played with pianist David Matthews in the 1970s , appeared on the Broadway production of Jesus Christ Superstar and can also be heard on the 1971 T. Rex album Electric Warrior . In 1977 he was a member of the Lee Konitz Nonett. Collins was also the author of textbooks on trumpet playing.
