Sal Salvador

Sal Salvador (born November 21, 1925 in Monson, Massachusetts , † September 22, 1999 in Stamford , Connecticut ) was an American jazz guitarist and bandleader of modern jazz .

Sal Salvador began his professional career in 1945, moved to New York in 1949, worked with Terry Gibbs , Mundell Lowe and in 1951 with the Radio City Music Hall Band . 1953-54 he played in the Stan Kenton Band; he worked on Kenton's album New Concepts of Artistry in Rhythm , on which he can be heard as a soloist on the track " Inventions for Guitar and Trumpet ". From 1954 Salvador led his own formation, from 1958 a big band . He appeared at the Newport Jazz Festival (with Sonny Stitt ) and in the festival film Jazz On A Summer's Day . In the mid-1960s he was again leading ensembles with a smaller cast. Salvador has also made recordings with Eddie Bert , Lenny Hambro, and Don Bagley .

In later years Sal Salvador mainly worked as a guitar teacher.
