Don Bagley

Donald Neff "Don" Bagley (* 18 July 1927 in Salt Lake City , Utah ; † 26 July 2012 in Northridge , California ) was an American jazz - bassist and film composer .

Live and act

Don Bagley studied in Los Angeles and after three years in the US Navy played with Shorty Sherock and Wingy Manone in 1945 and with Dick Pierce in 1948 . From 1950 to 1954 he was a member of the orchestra of Stan Kenton on the recommendation of Jimmy Rowles , on whose album New Concepts of Artistry in Rhythm he participated. At times he also had his own trio and was hired by Les Brown for his band in 1957 . In the 1960s he worked mainly as a studio musician for the broadcaster NBC . During his career, Bagley has recorded with Shorty Rogers , Maynard Ferguson , Julie London , the Wardell Gray / Dexter Gordon All Stars , Zoot Sims , Lee Konitz , Sarah Vaughan, and the Lars Gullin All American Stars . In 1958 he recorded two albums under his own name. Between 1961 and 1983 he composed a number of film scores; he also wrote arrangements and conducted from the 1970s.
