Mary Ann Shaffer
Mary Ann Shaffer , full name Mary Ann Fiery Shaffer (born December 13, 1934 in Martinsburg , West Virginia , † February 16, 2008 in San Anselmo , California , USA ) was an American bookseller and writer .
Life
Shaffer worked in bookstores, libraries, and publishing before realizing her dream of writing a book someone loved enough to want to publish . This is how the epistolary novel The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society came into being with the help of her niece, the writer Annie Barrows , and encouragement from the family and the literary society. The book was published by Random House publisher shortly after her death and enjoyed immediate international success. In 2018, a film adaptation of Deine Juliet was released in cinemas.
