Mary Macleod

Mary Macleod (born January 4, 1969 in London ) is a British politician of the Conservative Party . From 2010 to 2015 she was a member of the House of Commons .

Family and education

Macleod was born in London to Scottish parents. Her father was a pastor . She received her university education at the University of Glasgow . She lives in the London borough of Chiswick .

Professional background

After completing her studies, she first worked at Anderson Consulting . She later worked as Chief of Staff and Chief Operating Officer at ABN AMRO before moving to the Royal Bank of Scotland . Among other things, she was mainly responsible for the company's public relations . Later she became an adviser to Elizabeth II. In the Buckingham Palace . There she advised the royal family on issues of public relations, among other things. She was also an ambassador for ActionAid , a charitable organization fighting poverty worldwide, and a member of the Royal Society of Arts .

Political career

In the 2010 House of Commons elections , Macleod won the seat in the constituency of Brentford and Isleworth . She prevailed with a lead of 6.5% against then incumbent Ann Keen of the Labor Party . As of May 2010, Macleod served on the Home Affairs Select Committee , a committee of the House of Commons. In September of that year she was appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary and worked for Nick Herbert . In September 2013 she moved to the office of Minister of Culture Maria Miller as a private parliamentary secretary . Even after her resignation in April 2014, Macleod remained in the Ministry of Culture, Media and Sports . Among other things, she advocates equal rights for women and men in succession to hereditary nobility titles . In the 2015 election , she lost her seat to Labor politician Ruth Cadbury.
