The Mary River is a river in the Kimberley region in the north of the Australian state of Western Australia .
geography
The river has its source north of the Ruby Plains settlement on the southern slopes of Mount Angelo , 25 kilometers south of Halls Creek . From there it flows west through the settlement of Oollumarra Soak and flows below Mount Jean into the Margaret River , shortly after it has crossed under the Great Northern Highway .

Origin of name
The Mary River got its name in 1884. The surveyor Harry Johnston named him after his mother.
