Marzau mill

The Marzauer Mühle is a former ban mill in the middle Westerwald near Wahlrod .

The mill has its origins in the 12th century. The "Molle zu Mertzauer" on the upper reaches of the Wied has been documented since 1453. Until 1807 the mill was only leased for a certain period of time. After that, carried investiture right of use in the form of a Erbleihe with the right of transmission to the male offspring. In 1789 a member of the Jung family first appeared as a tenant. In 1828 Hermann Jung received the mill on a long lease . When it was replaced in 1872, the Marzauer Mühle became the absolute property of the miller family.

At the beginning of the 18th century, the mill had two stone grinding courses , each of which had its own water wheel . In 1745 a cutting mill was added. In 1802/1805 a new building was built with a saw, its own water wheel and a separate mill ditch . In 1946 an overshot water wheel was still supplying the mill to the grinders, after which two turbines took over this task. In 1982 a new 20 kW system was installed to make better use of the low water . The grinders, consisting of two roller mills , a grist and a hammer mill, are still fully functional and process the grain produced on the main farm . At present (2014) the mill plant is operational and is used for crushing of feed used. The hydropower is also used to generate electricity .
