Masaaki Kanda

Masaaki Kanda ( Japanese 神 田 真 秋 , Kanda Masaaki ; born October 1, 1951 in Ichinomiya , Aichi Prefecture ) is a Japanese politician and was governor of Aichi Prefecture from 1999 to 2011.

Kanda studied law at Chūō University . From 1976 he worked as a lawyer in Nagoya . From 1991 to 1998 he was mayor of his hometown Ichinomiya. In 1999 he won the gubernatorial elections with the support of all major parties with the exception of the CPJ at the first attempt, after Reiji Suzuki did not run after 16 years in office in order to devote himself to preparing for Expo 2005 . In his third re-election in 2007, Kanda prevailed with the support of LDP and Kōmeitō against Yoshihiro Ishida (Mayor of Inuyama ) supported by DPJ , SDP and New Party Japan . In 2011 Kanda did not run again, the former LDP Shūgiin MP Hideaki Ōmura was elected as his successor .

From 1999 up to the suspension of operations in 2006 was Kanda CEO of Tōkadai Shin-Kotsu KK, the operator of the People Movers Peach liner , which was 46% owned by the Aichi Prefecture.
