Masaharu Take ( Japanese 武 正 晴 Take Masaharu ; * 1967 in Chita , Aichi Prefecture ) is a Japanese film director .

Take began to work in the film industry as an autodidact. His first involvement in film productions as an assistant director include Gonin (1995) and Gonin 2 (1996, both directed by Takashi Ishii ). After a few more years as an assistant director, he made his first own film as a director in 2006: Boy Meets Pusan . After that he worked for a few years as a director and assistant director. The director Kazuyuki Izutsu , for whom Take was assistant director for numerous films (including Get Up! / Geroppa!, 2003, Break Through! / Pacchigi!, 2005, and Fly with the Gold / Ōgon o daite tobe) , had an important role model function for Take , 2012).

Take gained greater fame through his directorial work 100 Yen Love ( Hyakuen no koi , 2014), which was nominated for the 2015 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film (although ultimately not nominated) - a surprise for Take, he said. The film is about a saleswoman in a 100-yen store who starts boxing. The well-known, then 28-year-old actress Sakura Andō (including Kazoku no kuni ), who had already gained experience in boxing in her youth , was able to be won as the leading actress .

The Gun ( , 2018) is Take's first and so far only film for which he also wrote the script. This is based on the eponymous debut novel Fuminori Nakamuras from 2002 (Eng. The Revolver ). In The Gun is about a student who accidentally comes into possession of a gun. The film was compared with the Japanese New Wave cinema and Nagisa Ōshima and the performance of the main actor Nijirō Murakami was praised.

In 2019, Take first directed a television series ( The Naked Director ). His film We Make Antiques ( Uso happyaku , 2018) was so successful that a sequel, also under takes direction, has been announced for 2020.

Take names the directors Yūzō Kawashima , Martin Scorsese and the aforementioned Kazuyuki Izutsu, as well as the actress Ayako Wakao , as role models, inspiration and personal favorites .
