Masao Ōba

Masao Oba ( Jap. 大場政夫 , Oba Masao * 21st October 1949 in Tokyo ; † 25. January 1973 ) was a Japanese boxer in the flyweight .

Professional career

On November 7, 1966, at the age of 17, Ōba began his professional career. On October 22, 1970, he boxed against Berkrerk Chartvanchai for the WBA World Championship and won by classic knockout in round 13. He defended this title four times. His last fight, the fifth title defense, took place on January 2, 1973 against Chartchai Chionoi . Despite several own downfalls, he won by knockout in the 12th round. On the 24th of the same month, Ōba died in a car accident at the age of 23.

In 2015 Masao Ōba was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame .
