Maschʾabbe Sade (Hebrew: מַשְׁאַבֵּי שָׂדֶה; English: Mashabei Sadeh) is a kibbutz in Israel . It is located in the Negev desert 25 kilometers south of Beer Sheva . In 2018 it had 461 residents and belongs to the Ramat Negev regional association .
history
The kibbutz was founded in 1947 in the Elusa dunes and was originally called Maschʾabbim (Hebrew: משאבים, lit. resources ). During the Palestine War in 1948, the kibbutz was attacked by the Egyptian army , but not captured. After the end of the war, the kibbutz moved to its current location and was renamed Maschʾabbe Sade in honor of Yitzhak Sadeh , who died in 1952 , the former commander in chief of the paramilitary Palmach .
economy
Agriculture (field crops, poultry and dairy products) uses the brackish water available in the Negev desert for irrigation. Recently, a saltwater crab farm has been built using aquaculture methods. It is also the only kibbutz where the Australian native fish barramundi is raised. The kibbutz also operates a brass ball valve and pipe factory and maintains a guest house.
