Cantaura massacre

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cantaura massacre was an incident in which the Venezuelan military attacked the Américo Silva guerrilla group on October 4, 1982 near Cantaura , in the state of Anzoátegui .

This operation was called a massacre by certain left-wing sectors. 23 of the 41 guerrilla fighters were killed. Some are said to have been killed only after they were captured.

In September 2010, Róger Cordero Lara , one of the military who participated in the massacre, was elected as a candidate for the PSUV and with the support of the Venezuelan Communist Party . The NGO Provea responded and requested that Cordero's immunity be lifted .
