Massendefekt is a German rock band whose members mostly live in Meerbusch near Düsseldorf on the Lower Rhine . The band itself describes their music with German lyrics as Punk & Roll.

history

Massendefekt was founded in March 2001 by Christian "Ole" Olejnik, Claus "Clausi" Pütz, Mike Duda and Sascha "Utti" Utecht. At that time the band only wanted to play a benefit concert in Meerbusch . At the performance, Wolfgang “Wölli” Rohde also sat on the drums, who supported the band in the following years. Because of the positive response to the concert, Massendefekt decided to let the band continue. Sebastian "Sebi" Beyer became the second guitarist.

In 2002 the band released their first album, Nur für dich . She toured Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The albums Träum weiter (2004) and Land in Sicht (2006) followed, as well as hundreds of concerts and festival shows. In December 2006, drummer Utti left the band. He was succeeded in June 2007 by Alexander "Alex" Wolfart. At the end of 2009 singer Ole also left. The band decided against a new singer. Guitarist Sebi also took over the microphone.

In 2011 Massendefekt founded their own record label "MD Records" together with concert team nrw. In 2012 Tangodiesel was released there , the first album with Sebi on vocals. Successful concert and festival tours followed. In 2014 the band released another studio album called Zwischen Gleich und anders . It became her first chart success and rose to 33rd place. This was followed by a club tour and appearances at the With Full Force Festival , Open Flair Festival and Deichbrand Festival, among others . The band ended their autumn tour 2014 with a sold out “home game” concert in the Düsseldorf steelworks.

After another club and festival tour in 2015, the current album Echos was released on February 26, 2016. It reached number 23 on the charts. In March and April 2016 the band played an almost completely sold out tour in Germany and Austria. In summer 2016 there were numerous festival appearances , for example at the Deichbrand Festival , Taubertal Festival and Highfield Festival . The band has also announced another tour for November and December 2016.

In 2016 Massendefekt played as the opening act for AC / DC in Düsseldorf.

On August 20, 2018, Massendefekt announced on their Facebook page that the guitarist and singer Clausi is quitting for personal reasons. The successor was Nico, who is known from the bands NM50 and three minute record .

On October 13, 2018, Massendefekt was the first of three supporting acts for Die Toten Hosen on stage in the sold-out Merkur Games Arena in Düsseldorf.

Trivia

Traditionally, the band celebrates the release of a new album together with fans and crew at special concerts. Tickets for it can only be won. In 2012 and 2014 Massendefekt played a concert in a tram for the release of Tangodiesel and Zwischen Gleich und anders . There was a concert on the Rhine ship “River Star” to accompany the releases of Echos and Pacific .
