Massimo Consoli ( December 12, 1945 - November 4, 2007 in Rome ) was an Italian author , historian and LGBT activist. Consoli is known as " the father of the Italian gay movement " (in German, for example: father of the Italian gay movement).

The anarchist and historian Consoli wrote more than 30 books, including about Karl Heinrich Ulrichs and Kurt Hiller . Consoli was a close friend of the American author Vito Russo and the Italian LGBT activist Mario Mieli . In 1998, the Italian State Archives of the Ministry of Culture acquired its extensive archive of Italian LGBT history.

Consoli died in Italy in November 2007.
