The Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard ( MCPOCG ) is a position of a non-commissioned officer in the United States Coast Guard ; he is also a Senior Enlisted Advisor . He is named by the Commandant of the Coast Guard , and his four-year term corresponds to that of the Commandant .

The first incumbent was Charles Calhoun; current (11th) incumbent since May 21, 2010 Michael P. Leavitt , his predecessor was Charles W. Bowen . Its tasks are advisory and mediating functions within the armed forces, with higher-level authorities as well as between coast guard employees and their family members.

Holders of the service are only long-serving members of the American Coast Guard.
