Sergeant Major of the Army
Sergeant Major of the Army ( SMA ) is the highest non-commissioned officer rank in the US Army . There is only one NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer) of this rank and at the same time this official position holds. He is the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Army .
tasks
The SMA serves as the superior of the corps of the US Army and belongs to the staff of the Chief of Staff of the Army. He is an advisor in all service matters that affect the Army NCOs, especially in the areas of soldier training and quality of life.
For much of his time, he travels across the US Army, overseeing training and speaking to soldiers and their families.
The SMA is a non-commissioned officer, but in the protocol the SMA is ranked higher than the Army Lieutenant General.
