Commandant of the Coast Guard
The Commandant of the Coast Guard (to . Dt : "Commander of the Coast Guard") is the highest-ranking member of the US Coast Guard and (today) whose sole (4 star) - Admiral . His appointment for a four-year term must be legitimized by the United States Senate , and the appointment is made by the President of the United States . The office has existed since December 24, 1889. The holder of the office has been Admiral Karl L. Schultz since June 1, 2018 .
When Kompetenzgebung Commandant of the Coast Guard of the special status of the US Coast Guard comes into play, which is neither purely military nor a purely civilian authority , and their use priorities depend on prevailing war or peace. So it happens that the Commandant of the Coast Guard, as the only commanding officer of a branch, is not a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff .
Internally, the Commandant of the Coast Guard is referred to as "CG-00", the Vice Commandant as "CG-09".
