Admiral Thad W. Allen

Thad William Allen (born January 16, 1949 in Tucson , Arizona ) is Admiral of the US Coast Guard ( USCG ) and was its 23rd Commandant until May 25, 2010.

Life

Allen is from Los Angeles , where he lived for a long time in Tucson, Arizona. He graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 1971.

During his term of office - as Atlantic Area Commander and Commander of the Maritime Defense Zone Atlantic - the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the incorporation of the USCG into the Ministry of Homeland Security (2002), as Principal Federal Official ( PFO ) the management of the Consequences of Hurricane Katrina (2005) and the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill . Allen was Chief of Staff of the Coast Guard from 2002 to 2006.

He succeeds Admiral Thomas H. Collins as Commandant of the Coast Guard , whose office he took over in 2006. His successor is his current deputy, Vice Admiral Robert J. Papp . On May 1, 2010 Allen became the personal catastrophe Representative of the President for the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico (National Incident Commander for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico) appointed; he continues to hold this office.

Allen holds a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Public Administration .
