Masud Gharahkhani (born September 22, 1982 in Tehran ) is a Norwegian politician of the social democratic party Arbeiderpartiet (Ap). He has been a member of parliament in Storting since 2017 .

Life

Gharahkhani was born in the Iranian capital Tehran and came to Norway in 1987. He is a trained radiographer and worked in a hospital from 2003 to 2008. From 2004 to 2007 he was the chairman of the youth organization Arbeidernes Ungdomsfylking (AUF) in what was then the province of Buskerud .

In the legislative period between 2007 and 2011 he was a member of the Fylkesting of Buskerud and the local parliament of Øvre Eiker . In 2011 he was elected to the Drammen local parliament, but in the election for mayor he was defeated by the Høyre candidate . In the 2009 parliamentary elections , Gharahkhani missed entry into the Norwegian national parliament in Storting , and in 2017 Gharahkhani was finally able to receive a mandate. In Storting he represents the constituency of Buskerud; he became a member of the Family and Culture Committee. In January 2018 he moved to the local and administrative committee.

Positions

In 2011, he stated that children aged four and over should be tested on their language skills as it is not acceptable for them to start school without mastering the Norwegian language . In February 2011 he said that parents who send their children to foreign Koran schools should be punished.

In April 2020, he was criticized by party members, among others, for opposing the admission of orphans from the Moria refugee camp as his party's immigration spokesman .
