Matakustix is an Austrian band from Klagenfurt am Wörthersee . The group plays Austropop with influences from folk music and beatbox , while the text is performed in the Carinthian dialect . The band itself describes their music as "alternative folk music".

history

In 2012, Matakustix was launched as a solo project by Matthias Ortner. Before that he toured across Europe with his band JOEL . Christian Wrulich, a former student colleague of Matthias Ortner, had agreed to support a couple of live performances, where he then became an integral part of Matakustix. Michael Kraxner had expressed his interest in the band on Facebook and was a perfect fit for the Matakustix team.

The band calls the music style "alternative folk music". This means that popular songs are mixed with modern components (e.g. beatbox). Matakustix stands for "real music", so no playback or digital technology.

The name Matakustix is a play on words made up of the first name Matthias and the adjective acoustic .

In 2019, Matakustix was signed to Universal Music .
