Mataso , also known as Matah , is the southernmost island of the Shepherd Islands in the South Pacific island state of Vanuatu . It belongs to the central Vanuatu province of Shefa .

The small island, which is dominated by the two mountains Matah Susum and Matah 'Ahlam (650 m), is 17 kilometers south of Émaé and 29 kilometers north of the island of Éfaté .

According to the 2015 census, the island has 61 inhabitants.
