Matchedje Motors, Lda. or Matchedje Motors Mozambique, Lda. Is a Mozambican - Chinese companies in the automotive industry . Founded in 2011, the company has been producing automobiles since 2014 , the first of its kind in Mozambique and the first car brand in the country.

history

The idea of ​​founding the company came from the Mozambican government with the aim of giving the Mozambican population easier access to mobility. Cars are still considered luxury goods in the country, mostly because of the left-hand traffic they are imported from Japan and South Africa .

In 2011, the Mozambican government and the Chinese investor China Tong Jian Investment Co. Ltd. from Shanghai the company Matchedje Motors, Lda. based in the Virgin Islands as well as the associated subsidiary Matchedje Motors Mozambique, Lda. based in the Machava district of the Maputo suburb of Matola . The company is named after Matchedje ( Sanga district , Niassa province ), the location of the second congress of the ruling FRELIMO party in 1968.

The company was granted a license as an automobile manufacturer in 2012. Together with the Mozambican state-owned company Portos e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique , the Ministries for Trade and Technology, the Customs Office and the Investment Cabinet (Gazeda), the company set up its first factory in Machava. The first part of the plant was completed in 2013. An expansion to 590  hectares is planned .

The first production began in March 2014, on September 25, 2014, on Mozambique's national holiday, the company presented the first completed model of a pick-up . Production of 100,000 vehicles is planned for 2015 and 2016; the medium-term goal is to produce 500,000 vehicles per year in 2017-2020. According to press reports, a total of 150 million US dollars were invested, creating 400 direct jobs.

Models

The first car model in production is a pick-up with the model name "F16", equipped with a 2.8-liter diesel engine . The model is identical to the Foday Lion F16 from the Chinese manufacturer Guangdong Foday Automobile Co., Ltd., and is based heavily on the pick-up model of the Toyota Hilux, which is widely used in Mozambique . The first copies are sold at a price of 595,000 Meticais (approx. 15,000 euros).

Furthermore, according to company information and press reports, the production of 3,000 city buses and minibuses, 5,000 trucks and 22,000 small cars is also planned. The models are based on concepts from TJ Innova Engineering & Technology , which is jointly owned by China Tong Jian Investment .
