Mateus dos Santos Castro , called Mateus , (born September 11, 1994 in Itabuna ) is a Brazilian soccer player .

Career

Mateus learned to play football in the youth teams of the Brazilian clubs Itabuna EC , Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte and EC Bahia . At Bahia he was also under contract after completing his training. From August 2014 to January 2015 he was loaned to the Japanese first division club Ōmiya Ardija from Saitama . At the end of the season he had to start the path to the second division with the club. In mid-2015 he moved back to Japan on loan to Ōmiya Ardija. At the end of the season he was with Ardija champions of the J2 League and rose to the first division. After the loan ended, he did not return to EC Bahia. He was signed by Ardija in early 2017 for a transfer fee of 443,000 euros. At the end of 2017 he was relegated back to the second division with Ardija. From 2017 to 2018 he played 66 games for Ardija. In 2019, the first division club Nagoya Grampus from Nagoya signed him. League rival Yokohama F. Marinos from Yokohama loaned him from August 2019 to December 2019. With the club he became Japanese soccer champion at the end of 2019. In January he returned to Nagoya Grampus.
