Notre-Dame du Raimeux in Crémines

The Chapelle Notre-Dame du Raimeux in Crémines in the canton of Bern is a branch church of the parish Notre-Dame de la Prévôté in Moutier . It's near the train station and the Aliziers nursing home .

history

In the 1930s, the Catholics of the valley called Grand Val or Cornet at the southern foot of Mont Raimeux raised funds to build their own church. In 1934 a plot of land was acquired in Crémines in order to build a small chapel on it. The architect Silvio Casagrande built a chapel entirely out of wood that can accommodate 100 people. The chapel was consecrated on January 20, 1935 on the patronage of Notre-Dame du Raimeux as the second place of worship in the parish of Moutier.

Building description

The church is slightly raised a little off the road and faces east-west. It is a rectangular, low building with a gable roof covered with interlocking tiles. A simple roof turret carries a small bell over the west gable. The entrance leads through a front porch with a gable roof shaped like the main roof. On the south side of the choir is a sacristy extension with a separate entrance door. The outer walls are clad with white mineral fiber panels.

Interior and artistic equipment

Notre-Dame du Raimeux, choir room

The interior of the nave impresses with its wood paneling, which also covers the semicircular plank trusses. The three arches divide the length of the room and carry the visible ridge and central purlins . The side walls are broken up by six windows and four windows in a row on the north side of the choir . In each of the windows, glazed with lead rods, there is a round pane with Christian symbols. Between the windows there are pictures of the stations of the cross, which, due to their 19th century painting style, probably come from the old church in Moutier, which was demolished in 1966. During the renovation of the church carried out by Silvio Casagrande in 1978, the choir was also adapted to the innovations of the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council . The base of the folk altar and the sediles are made from halved tree trunk sections. The bronze candles on the back wall of the choir and the arms of the tabernacle and lectern are artistically designed. An electronic organ positive complements the equipment of the choir room.
