The Matra MS10 was a Formula 1 racing car, developed and built by Matra in 1968.

The MS10 was built exclusively for the Tyrrell team and was the consistent implementation of the Cosworth DFV solution. In contrast to the Matra-Matra , the MS11 , which had a 12-cylinder engine in the rear, the MS10 was powered by an 8-cylinder unit.

With the design of the MS10, Matra designer Bernard Boyer followed the tried and tested line of the French racing car manufacturer. As in the previous models, the monocoque was connected to the rear suspension by a frame. The fuel tank was placed in two side containers. The test drives with the MS9 had shown that its tank was too small for a complete Grand Prix distance. To avoid the danger of refueling during the race, Boyer increased the capacity to 190 liters. The MS9 still had suspension parts that were carried over from the Matra sports car. With the MS10 these have been replaced by new designs.

Ken Tyrrell first used the MS10 at the 1968 Race of Champions at Brands Hatch . The MS10 made its debut in the world championship at the Spanish Grand Prix , where Jean-Pierre Beltoise finished fifth. Johnny Servoz-Gavin proved that Matra had built a top vehicle with an early lead at the Monaco Grand Prix .

Jackie Stewart won three world championship races with the MS10 in 1968 and had a realistic chance of winning the drivers’s championship until the last race of the season in Mexico . In addition to his victories in the Netherlands and the USA , the Scot celebrated one of his greatest victories at the Nürburgring with the MS10. In the fog and pouring rain, the Scot at the finish had a lead of more than four minutes over the runner-up, Graham Hill .

Stewart and the Tyrrell team just missed out on the drivers' title, which went to Hill in the Lotus 49 . Matra only built two MS10 chassis, both of which survived the season without accidents. Nevertheless, the two cars were scrapped in 1969 and replaced by the MS80 .
